Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate and innovative Instructional Designer, reporting to the Director of Scouting University, to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial for developing effective educational programs and materials that empower our stakeholders and enhance our mission-driven initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a keen understanding of adult learning theories, instructional design methodologies, and the ability to translate complex concepts into accessible learning experiences.

As an Instructional Designer, you will design, develop, and plan application of multiple learning products (lesson plans, job aids, instructor/student guides, study guides, workbooks, eLearning modules, synchronous learning courses etc.) for delivery in multiple formats (classroom, eLearning, social, wiki, print, etc.). You will analyze learning needs collaborating with subject matter experts to provide input for course content and work with management to ensure course materials are current and relevant to training needs and customer perspective. You will have the unique opportunity to perform research to design and develop customized training programs, including the design of computer-based training programs. This position may facilitate training during the introduction of new courses. Additionally, you will be tasked with providing instruction and guidance to trainers for employees, professional scouters and managers, as well as scouting volunteers and scout leaders. Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops various learning products designing, primarily eLearning, for training frameworks, training scenarios, role playing and delivery. Partners with training design contractors and outside vendors and Scouting volunteers. Responsible for meeting timelines and producing training designs and proposals in the most cost-efficient format and developing within budgets.
  • Partners with and may oversee the work of contract training designers and vendors to produce the most efficient, cost-effective training delivery formats and products. Conducts train-the-trainer as needed.
  • Works cross-functionally with SMEs from all areas of the organization to design and develop customized training programs and optimal formats for learning delivery for employees, professional scouters and managers, as well as scouting volunteers and scout leaders.
  • Responsible for training, learning, and knowledge initiatives and projects as an owner, participant and/or subject matter expert. Reviews and revises current curriculum and training formats and recommends and provides planning for improvements, efficiencies, or redesign based on results of learning objective results.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Competencies

  • Knowledge of: Graphics design, social media delivery, sales, and technical training delivery. Experienced in authoring systems (Captivate, Articulate Rise, Articulate Storyline), graphic tools (such as Photoshop,Illustrator), and video editing software.
  • Skill in: Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; developing and instructing training procedures; coordinating multiple projects simultaneously; operating a personal computer including standard word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to: Continuously learn and collaborate.

Qualifications

  • 6 years of experience working with learning and content management systems and eLearning design.
  • Must pass a criminal history background check.

Preferences: Scouting field experience is beneficial for designing relevant training content to unit, council, and national operations.

Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above-specified education and experience requirements.
