Pay Transparency: This position’s budgeted starting pay is $26.37 per hour ($54,863 annually). This is an hourly, non-exempt position.
Primary Worksite Location: Seattle office

Job Summary:
The Material Resource team ensures youth in foster care have access to the basic items they need to be prepared for school and life. As part of the Store team, the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator oversees daily volunteer engagement and community-facing opportunities in Treehouse’s free retail space. This position works directly with Treehouse staff, donors, volunteers, and clients to ensure the needs of each stakeholder are met.
Creative, detail-oriented, and personable, the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator leads volunteer onboarding and accountability, plans proactively for seasonal needs, supports donor stewardship, trains and supervises individual and group volunteers, and helps maintain a welcoming, trauma-informed environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Individual Functions:
- Collaborate with Program Manager, Material Resources and the Volunteer Manager to ensure program needs are met through the volunteer program.
- Lead onboarding of individual volunteers and oversee ongoing volunteer activities including training on new tasks, expectation setting, providing support throughout a volunteer shift, responding to challenges and concerns, and relationship building.
- Monitor the store email account and voicemail, providing information about Treehouse programs as well as other resources to donors, partners, social workers, clients, and community members.
- Provide day-of support and leadership to group volunteers including orientation, task assignment, and support throughout their shift.
- Hold volunteers accountable to Treehouse standards of trauma-informed and anti-racist behavior.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager, Material Resources and Volunteer Manager to create, refine, disseminate, and enforce clear volunteer policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Partner with the Program Manager, Material Resources and Volunteer Manager to identify, implement, and track program and role-specific trainings for volunteers.
- Provide ongoing support to volunteers in scheduling hours, ensuring VolunteerHub is kept up to date and hours are tracked and reported accurately.
- Collaborate with peers to ensure volunteers are kept up to date on relevant program updates and changes.
- Work with community supporters to accept and track donations.
Team Functions:
- Provide excellent customer service to caregivers and young adults accessing services, including de-escalation, conflict resolution, and compassionate service to those experiencing crisis.
- Establish and maintain an environment where clients, volunteers, and staff are able to engage positively and respectfully.
- Oversee volunteer activities including giving orientations to the space/team, training on new tasks, providing support throughout a volunteer shift, relationship building, and carrying out conflict resolution.
- Ensure accurate and timely data recording of client visits and inventory records.
- Collect stories, testimonials, and client feedback regularly to inform marketing and outreach strategies.
- Serve as liaison between the Store and other Treehouse programs, answering questions and communicating seasonal resources.
- Lead groups of volunteers in daily or seasonal projects.
- Provide tours of the Store and share information about all Treehouse services and programs.
- Support other members of the Store team in programmatic activities to ensure tasks are accomplished in the best interests of service to clients and the holistic program. This support includes but is not limited to: sorting and organizing donations, auditing inventory, providing customer support, and fulfilling online orders.
- Employees may be required to take on new tasks or adjust their current responsibilities to align with the Treehouse mission and support continuous improvement.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Two years' experience working with or leading volunteers.
- Must have current driver's license, and at least minimum WA State driver insurance coverage required. Driving record must be approved by Treehouse's insurance provider.
- Must satisfy Washington State criminal background requirements for working with youth and vulnerable adults.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to drive the Treehouse company cargo van in Seattle metro area.
- Ability and aptitude with Microsoft O365 and other technology necessary for successful day-to-day functioning in a business environment.
- Strong written communication skills, especially for volunteer messaging, newsletters, and donor correspondence.
- Ability to set boundaries and utilize support services to manage the personal impact of working with young people who have been placed at risk.
- Ability and aptitude with online database systems to maintain records and data to support effective evaluation processes and analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to stay calm under pressure and de-escalate situations when necessary. Must be able to engage in a compassionate manner and with individuals seeking resources while in crisis.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate successfully through multiple platforms and provide compassionate customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to build working relationships with individuals of various ages, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and abilities.
- Deep commitment to racial equity and social justice and ability to effectively engage in candid conversations about diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.
- Maintain confidentiality of information and sign a confidentiality agreement.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time, in-office position.
- Expected hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Occasional Monday-Friday work required.
- Must reside within Washington State to comply with workplace reporting requirements.
Travel:
- Occasional regional travel during working hours.
- Infrequent overnight travel required.
Physical and Mental Conditions:
- Physical Requirements – long periods of stationary work, working on a computer, moving between various work areas, going up and down stairs, talking on the phone, interfacing with a computer/office equipment, and sitting at a desk or table while listening, talking, and taking notes.
- Mental Requirements – ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to remain poised under all circumstances, and to interact effectively with people in a positive manner that creates confidence and trust.
